DISK-BASED BACKUP AT SHOPPERS’ STOP: The retail store chain chose to go with Iomega’s NAS device for its outlet backup needs doing away with DAT drives in the process.

When Shoppers’ Stop was looking for a solution to back up data at its outlets, it chose to go with Iomega. The company implemented Iomega’s 2TB StorCenter ix2-200 network-attached storage (NAS) device across 41 Shoppers’ Stop group stores in India. The deployment was started in the first week of December 2010 and completed in the third week of December 2010. Arun Gupta, Customer Care Associate & Group CTO, Shoppers’ Stop, said, “There were technical and security related issues which were observed, when multiple brands such as Crossword, Mothercare etc. had to share a device with the big store Shoppers’ Stop. The Iomega support team helped us with the solutions to these issues and we are now fully operational.” The data volumes that need to be backed up at a Shoppers’ Stop outlet on an average work out to 50- 100 GB for a full backup depending upon store size and the daily backup or changed data works out to between 1 and 2 GB. The total backup containing daily, weekly and monthly backup works out to 500 to 800 GB.
